Back – ne? How to get ready for summer….

Acne on your back can affect anyone, not just a teenager. This kind of acne is persistent and difficult to clear up. Now that summer is coming closer and sleeveless shirts are necessary, how do you ignore the back-ne? Infrared sauna can make a big difference.

Most people I talk to don’t understand how different infrared sauna works as compared to other saunas. The infrared sauna causes your body to sweat from a deeper level. This means the sweat you generate is not just a result of your body getting hot and needing to cool off. The light waves from infrared are similar to the wavelengths of the sun resulting in you feeling relaxed after the sauna, as if you went to the beach for the day and didn’t get sunburned. So many clients use the infrared sauna for stress management and there are studies available showing it is good for your heart health as well.

Back to getting good results with conquering back-ne. We have found that doing an infrared sauna session 3 times a week for 4 weeks can help your skin to clear up and this also means you have made some headway on reducing your detox levels–and stress as well. Pretty good for an easy, 30-minute relaxing sauna session!

Benefits of far infrared sauna are:

  1. Detox
  2. Relaxation, well-being
  3. Pain relief
  4. Weight release
  5. Improved circulation
  6. Skin purification

Holiday Cheer and Inflammation

Holiday Cheer!

Wine has its place at the dinner table or dinner party, especially during the holidays. It may also be contributing to the inflammation and pain you’re experiencing days later. You may say, “But it helps me unwind at the end of the day and I enjoy it.” Yes, unwinding can be beneficial but I find that most patients I talk to about their habits often are not recognizing the impact alcohol has on the fluids in our body systems. I want to bring it to your attention that one reason you may be in an inflammatory pain situation is drinking more than one half a glass of wine in an evening could be contributing to the pain you’re experiencing that is not clearing up as easily as it once did.

Since I have been working with Manual Lymph Drainage –MLD--I have seen the impact wine can have on fluid retention. The MLD will help resolve and manage the overflow or inflammation in the body, but the body needs your help as well. Drinking more water is the biggest help. So what do you do at a party where it is easy to loose track of how many glasses or just the ease wine or beer goes down from the mouth and into the stomach? You can make sure you go to the party well hydrated to begin with. If you’re someone who doesn’t like to drink water you can try adding a drop of lemon oil or wild orange oil into the water to help with the taste and the absorption of the water. If drinking more water makes you frequent the bathroom more than you want, it may be your body ridding itself of the extra fluids, and if you’re patient with the process it will all normalize as your body gets its proper hydration. To help with good hydration get into the good habit of drinking one full glass water first thing in the morning. We keep a glass of water in the bathroom each night to have ready to drink each day. Going into your day well hydrated will help you at your party, too, because you won’t be so thirsty on a cellular level. What that means to you is that you will feel less stress because of ease of metabolic activity.
Wishing you all the best this Holiday season with gratitude and love.

Exposure to Poison Ivy: Woes and Solutions

All these great spring days and I cannot keep myself from working outside in my garden, even though every year I struggle with poison ivy reactions. Not only do I get itchy, bumpy, oozing sores on my hands and wrists from digging out in the dirt, but also from my affectionate cat who carries it home on his fur. Over the years I have tried everything and this is what I have found to be most helpful:

If I know I have been exposed to the irritating oils I wash with Technu or something similar. I have never found applying calamine lotion to do much good and it is pretty messy.

Most of the time the only indication I have of poison ivy exposure is the bumps forming on my skin and some itching.  In this case the homeopathic RuxTox  has never been much help, either, no matter what the dose I used or the dilutions (I have tried many times over many years). Over the counter steroid cream helps with the itching pretty well for a day or two. As an herbalist I’d rather use a non-suppressive whole plant solution with out side effects.

So far the only remedy that has helped my itching, burning, oozing, bumpy skin to heal quickly has been formulated by Energetix . It is called Phyto Rad Antioxidant. I apply the liquid topically and within 10 or 15 minutes the inflammation is reducing and the irritation is calming down. I think this is a big deal because in the past I have had to take oral steroids for the problem because the irritation will keep increasing if I am unable to get the inflammation under control. Hope for a speedy and easy recovery is restored!
